QR Menu Accessibility: The Guests Your QR Code Leaves Behind

A dining room of forty will contain several people your QR code does not serve. None of the fixes are expensive; most of them are not software.

The short version

  • An HTML menu can be read aloud by a screen reader. A PDF or an image of a menu usually cannot, which makes the format choice an accessibility decision.

  • Most exclusion is mundane: a flat battery, no data in a basement, an older phone, or a guest who does not want a screen at dinner.

  • Keeping printed menus is normal practice, not an admission that the system failed. In some jurisdictions a print option is a legal condition.

  • The fix that matters most is a staff brief, not a feature.
